There are about 15,000 trees in HI that grow below 1,500 feet level.
The best lychee fruits boast a juicy, sweet flesh inside with a small seed.
The season in HI is from May to August and one can find it in everything from cocktails to sorbets.
Taste is nothing like the canned version, is like a cross between strawberry and a grape, with a sweet floral fragance.
Lychee is loaded with vitamin C -more than oranges and lemons- antioxidants and B-complex vitamins like niacin and folates.
